Obituary of Rita F. Amendola

Rita F. Amendola, 103, of Hanover Township, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at the Hampton House in Hanover Township. She was born in Scranton, a daughter of the late Joseph and Angela Damiano Amendola. Rita was a graduate of Hanover Township High School, and the valedictorian of the class of 1939. She was the caregiver to her family for her entire life. Rita was a devoted daughter, sister, and aunt. Her family will always remember her as a great cook and an avid Yankees fan, often preferring to listen to them on the radio rather than to watch them on TV. Rita’s gentle heart and her wisdom left an impact on all who knew her. Prior to its closure, she was a member of Holy Rosary Church in Wilkes-Barre. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph and Anthony Amendola, and by her sisters, Mary Moore, Angela, Anna, Margaret and Anna Marie Amendola. Rita is survived by her brother, Dominic Amendola of Hanover Township and by her sister-in-law, Helen Amendola of Jenkins Township. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at 11 am at St. Nicholas – St. Mary Parish, 226 S. Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday from 10 -11 am at the Church, prior to the Mass. Those attending the visitation and Mass are asked to go directly to the Church on Tuesday. Rita’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Hampton House for their many years of care and compassion. Also, a thank you to Compassus Hospice for their guidance and care over the last few weeks. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Eden Brook Hampton, 1548 Sans Souci Parkway, Hanover Township, 18706.
