Obituary of Mitchell Robert Maxwell

Mitchell Robert Maxwell, 72, of Plains Twp. passed away Thursday April 2, 2026, at Home. He was born in Sugar Notch the son of the late Jerome “Jerry” and Ruth Phillips Maxwell. Mitchell graduated from G.A.R. High School, class of 1972. He owned and operated M.R. Maxwell Construction, for over 30 years and Sapa Extrusions Inc., Mt. Top prior to retirement. Mitchell was a member of Sons of the American Legion, Post 673, Ashley. He loved to Fish, Hunt, and spend time with friends and family especially at his cabin in Susquehanna County. Mitchell was a devotee Pittsburgh Steelers Fan and enjoyed watching the games on Sunday at the Legion. Preceded in death by brothers, Thomas and Keith Maxwell. Survived by his wife of 51 years, Sally Gerrity Maxwell, brother, Kenneth Maxwell, Wilkes-Barre, sister, Mary Ann “Molly” Gentile (Barry), Hanover Twp., brother-in-law, Marty Gerrity, Plains Twp., sisters-in-law, Jenny Comitz, Florida, and Connie Gerrity, Towanda, brother-in-law, Peter Sladin, Wilkes-Barre, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am. Saturday April 11, 2026, from Nat Gawlas Jordan Funeral Home 89 Park Ave. Wilkes-Barre with Deacon Leo R. Thompson officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 am until time of service at the Funeral Home.
