Obituary of Margaret Pregmon

Margaret "Peg" Pregmon, 99, a resident of Wesley Village and formerly of Edwardsville, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026. Born in Kingston on January 17, 1927, Margaret, known to family and friends as Peg or Peggy, was the beloved daughter of the late Stephen Sr. and Tatiana "Tillie" (Lukachik) Wartella. She graduated from Edwardsville High School and Wyoming Seminary Business School before helping operate her family’s store in Edwardsville and working as an administrative assistant at People’s Bank. In 1995, Peg married Walter Pregmon, the love of her life. Their honeymoon in San Francisco began a wonderful chapter filled with travel, laughter, and cherished memories. Together they explored the United States, especially enjoying trips to California and Hawaii, while faithfully attending World War II reunions. A devoted member of the Russian Orthodox Church, Peg's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She sang in the church choir, performed with the Oratorio Society of Wyoming Valley, and treasured making pierogis alongside members of her church community. Peg will be remembered for her infectious smile, generous heart, and adventurous spirit. She loved weddings, dancing, introducing people she believed would make a wonderful couple, cheering for Penn State and her beloved Phillies, and embracing new experiences. An early member of the Wyoming Valley Ski Club, she enjoyed skiing, traveling throughout Europe and Russia, and savoring a scoop of Blue Ribbon Ice Cream. Serving others brought Peg great joy. She volunteered at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital and proudly served as one of the original docents at the F. M. Kirby Center. Peg was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter; her parents; her brothers, Dr. Stephen Wartella Jr. and William Wartella; her sister-in-law, Frances "Francie" Wartella; her nephew, Stephen Wartella III; and her stepson-in-law, Hal Myhr. She is lovingly remembered by her stepdaughters, Catherine Pregmon and Susan Stalder and her husband, General Keith Stalder; her nieces and nephews, Beth (Larry) Foy, Brad (Robin) Wartella, John (Mariana) Wartella, Alisa, Leigh, Elizabeth, and Katie; along with many extended family members, treasured friends, and all whose lives were enriched by her kindness. Family and friends are invited to visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Monday, July 27, 2026, at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, Wilkes-Barre. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 10:00 a.m., with interment at Fern Knoll Burial Park. Arrangements are entrusted to Nat Gawlas Jordan Funeral Home, Edwardsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Tikhon's Orthodox Monastery and the Traditional Hospice Fund, Dunmore, Pennsylvania. The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Michalene Torbik, the nurses and staff of Wesley Village, and Traditional Hospice Care for the exceptional compassion and loving care they provided to Peg.
