Obituary of Francis J. Corrigan

Francis J. Corrigan, 96, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024, in the Artman Lutheran Nursing Home in Ambler, PA. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, a son of the late Austin and Sara Corrigan (née Lord). Frank attended G.A.R. Memorial High School. He proudly served as a medic in the Army during the Korean War. Frank was formerly employed as a truck driver for ACME Markets for many years and later as a courier for 25 years with the Cross Valley Credit Union, prior to his retirement. As a truck driver, he was also a proud member of Teamsters Local 401. He was a member of the former Holy Savior Church in Wilkes-Barre. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemond Thoman Corrigan in 1994 and by his son, Francis J. Corrigan Jr. in 2023. He was also preceded in death by his twelve brothers and sisters. Frank is survived by his daughter, Mary Wilson and her husband, Roger; grandson, Sam Wilson; and nieces and nephews, including his niece, Midge Serafin and her husband, David. Frank was a dedicated fan of the Wilkes Barre Penguins hockey team, and a long-suffering lover of Philly sports. Anyone who knew Frank could attest he had the gift of gab, and his friends and family remember him as a natural storyteller who always had a joke ready. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 10 am in Saints Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains Township. Interment will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Shavertown. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the Mass on Monday from 9-10 a.m. in the Church. Condolences may be sent by visiting Frank’s obituary at www.ngjfuneral.com. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Nat Gawlas Jordan Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre.
