Obituary of Anthony Solack

Anthony Solack, 89, of Wilkes-Barre Township, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024 at Allied Services Hospice Center in Wilkes-Barre, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in the Stanton Hill Section of Wilkes-Barre Township, a son of the late Ignatius and Sophia Wojcik Solack. Tony attended Marymount High School. He served with the United States Army from 1957 to 1964. While in the service, he served with the 402nd Military Police and as a swim instructor and captain of the swim team. Tony was a member of the Wilkes-Barre Township American Legion Post 815. Tony was employed for 30 years at Offset Paperback in Dallas, retiring as manager of the Preparatory Department in 1999. He also owned and operated the Mayflower Café for many years. Tony was a member of Our Lady of Hope Parish, Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. He was also a member and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Assumpta Council 3987. He was a member of the Polish American Veterans in Plains, where he was a member of its Pitch League, and he was a member of the Odyssey Fitness Club in Wilkes-Barre. Tony was a former member of the Shur Shot Hunting Club. He enjoyed going to the Mohegan Sun Casino a couple times a week. Tony was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be missed dearly by all. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Evelyn Ustupski and her husband, Joseph; brother-in-law, Raymond Godlewski and just recently by his older brother and best friend, Bernard Solack. Tony is survived by his loving wife, Geraldine Nicklas Solack; children, Anthony Solack and, Judy Greeley and her husband, Joseph; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Collins and her husband, Daniel and Joseph Greeley and his wife, Carly; and by his great grandchildren, Reagan and Callie Collins. Tony is also survived by his siblings, Barbara Godlewski, Josephine Yale and her husband, Lawrence and, Patricia Boncheck and her husband, Michael; sister-in-law, Joan Solack and by numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 9:30 am from the Nat Gawlas Jordan Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 am in Our Lady of Hope Parish, 40 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday from 5-8 pm at the funeral home.
