Obituary of David J. Swainbank

David Joshua Swainbank, affectionately known as DJ, passed away August 12, 2024, after a brief illness at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, PA. DJ was born on July 23, 1991, in Kingston. He was a 2009 graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School. Everyone who knew DJ knew he loved all sports, especially the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Yankees. He could tell statistics about any player at any time. He played mini football for the Kingston Huskies and helped coach after graduating from school. He also loved fishing and spending time with his friends and family and will be forever missed. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Geisinger Hospital, Kingston Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Birchwood Physical Rehabilitation, and Fresenius Kidney Care in Wilkes-Barre for their wonderful care of DJ during his illness. DJ was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Edward Zimmerman, paternal grandparents Harry and Dorothy Swainbank, step-grandfather Richard Pitner, step-grandmother Susan Gilbert, and aunts Nancy Kostelnick and Carolyn Swainbank. He is survived by his maternal grandmother Donna Zimmerman, Larksville; step-grandmother Joyce Pitner, Maryville, TN; father David Swainbank and his wife Cindy, Kingston; his mother Maggi Zimmerman Tattersall and her husband Dan, Larksville; and his brother Cody. He is also survived by special aunts and uncles Cherri, John and his wife Debbie, Donny and his wife Donna, Edward and his wife Kim, Richard, stepsister Danielle Katbi and her husband Talal, stepbrother Nick Tattersall and his wife Kelsey, very special niece Bianca Tattersall, nephew JJ Tattersall, niece Ava Tattersall, numerous cousins, and best friends Jerry Crossin, Mike Merrick and Donny Johnson. A celebration of DJ’s life will be held on Sunday, August 18th, at 4 PM from the Nat Gawlas Jordan Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. Rev. Carol E. Coleman will officiate. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday prior to the service from 2 PM to 4 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or the American Kidney Foundation.
