Obituary of Peter Smeraglio

Peter Smeraglio, 90, of Wilkes-Barre passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024 at Allied Services Meade Street Skilled Nursing in Wilkes-Barre. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, a son of the late Emidio and Mary Carlo Smeraglio. Peter was a graduate of G.A.R. Memorial High School. He was an Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was formerly employed as an upholsterer for Craft Furniture and he was later employed at the Heritage House in Wilkes-Barre, prior to his retirement. Peter was a member of Our Lady of Hope Parish, Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Patricia Wielgopolski Smeraglio in 2001 and by his brother, Angelo Smeraglio in 2018. Peter is survived by his children, Jenifer Decker and her husband, Dr. Gary Decker, Kingston; Lisa Tidey and her husband, Thomas, Dallas; Diane Lakkis and her husband, Joe, Plains; and Michael Smeraglio and his wife, Amy, Laurel Run. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Gary Decker Jr.; Matthew Decker, Esquire; Peter Lakkis; Antoni Lakkis; Nicolas Lakkis; Michael Smeraglio Jr.; Thomas Tidey Jr.; and Nora Tidey, Esquire; 8 great grandchildren; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Peter was affectionately known as “Pop” to all his adoring family, and those who knew and loved him. He was an avid fisherman, gardener, and wonderful cook. His greatest joy in life was gathering with his family for great Italian meals and a nice glass of wine. He was an amazing, proud father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be sadly missed by all. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family from the Nat Gawlas Jordan Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre.
