Obituary of Frances J. Metzger
Frances Jane (Litzenberger) Metzger, 90, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 in Allied Services Meade Street Skilled Care, Wilkes-Barre.
She was born in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late Wilbur and Corabel Fuhrer Litzenberger. Fran was a 1952 graduate of G.A.R. Memorial High School. She was formerly employed at Keystate Bakery and at Eckerd Drugs, prior to her retirement.
Fran was a member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hanover Township, where she was a member of the choir and a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard F. Metzger, in 1997; and by her daughter, Debra L. Dodson, in 2003; and by her son-in-law, Al Dodson, in 2018. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Marjorie Simms and by her brothers, Raymond and Wilber Litzenberger.
Fran is survived by her sons, Leonard F. Metzger Jr. and his wife, Mary, Scranton and Lawrence Metzger and his companion, Wade, Lake Harmony; daughter, Sharon Pasone and her husband, Vito Pasone Jr., Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren, Megan Pasone, who Fran referred to as her right arm; Kimberly Pohlidal and her husband, John; Melissa Metzger and her husband, Bill Coopey; Vito Pasone III and his wife, Madison; and Colin Pasone; greatgrandchildren, Emilie, Jacob, Billy and Jackson. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Fran’s life will begin with a visitation for family and friends from 6-8 pm on Friday at the Nat Gawlas Jordan Funeral Home, 89 Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 10 am in St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church,1000 S. Main Street, Hanover Township. Her Pastor, Rev. Peter Haenftling, will officiate. Those attending the Service are asked to go directly to the Church on Saturday. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Fran’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Serenity Care in Kingston, Allied Services Meade Street Skilled Nursing in Wilkes-Barre and Dr. Jeffrey D’Andrea for their compassionate care.
