Robert Nilon (Bob), 78, of Nanticoke, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Birchwood Rehabilitation Center in Nanticoke surrounded by his loving family. Born June 17, 1946, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late William & Helen (Bayer) Nilon. He grew up in Ashley and was a graduate of St Leo’s High School. Bob graduated from Kings College with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and later Marywood University with a master’s Degree in Social Work. He was a member of St Nicholas Parish, Wilkes-Barre, PA. He was employed for 30 years as a Luzerne County Juvenile Probation Officer, later also working for Catholic Social Services and the Wilkes-Barre Area School District. One of Bob’s famous quotes was “Come see us, we haven’t moved” and openly welcomed family and friends whenever they were in the neighborhood. He was always in charge of the weather (if it was nice). Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, watching his wife crochet, coaching his children’s sports teams and enjoying the annual Father’s Day Phillies Game trip. He was preceded in death by his sisters: Marguerite Crawford, Helen Claire Folek and nephew P.J. Crawford. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, MaryEllen (Mengeringhausen) Nilon, brother William Nilon & wife Mary Ann, Ashley, daughter Wendy (Sinnott) Anderson, Mountaintop, sons Daniel Nilon & wife Hope of Hughestown, Timothy Nilon & wife Chelsea of Sewell, NJ, 6 grandchildren: Kaelyn, Ella & Shayley Anderson and Mila, Austin & Bryce Nilon along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 6, 2025, at 10:30 am in St. Nicholas-St. Mary’s Parish, 226 S. Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre. interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 – 10:30 am on Monday in the Church prior to his Mass.
